Eric Meyer has been appointed the new United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Meyer takes over the role that has been vacant since Ambassador Julie Chung completed her term in January this year.
“We look forward to working under his leadership to deepen the partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka, advancing our shared interests and priorities,” a statement by the US Embassy in Colombo read.
Background
A career member of the United States Senior Foreign Service, Ambassador Meyer has previously served as the Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Georgetown University, Meyer also has extensive experience in roles within the US State Department.
Deputy Chief of Mission Jayne Howell currently serves as Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Sri Lanka until a new Ambassador arrives.
