The Minister of Women and Child Affairs Proposes Child Safety Checks for Public Servants

The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs is proposing a certification process to ensure that individuals recruited for public service have no history of involvement or accusations in child-related crimes.

Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Paulraj stated that a Cabinet paper for her proposal has already been submitted, with a particular focus on roles directly involving children.

Minister Paulraj added that this requirement would also be enforced on individuals currently serving in the public sector.

Background

The certification must be issued by the police and other relevant official institutions, the Minister said.

Public officers will be required to renew the certification at specific service milestones, present it during service breaks, and produce it when applying for salary increments.

This measure is intended to safeguard the well-being of children, ensuring that those entrusted with responsibilities involving minors undergo regular background checks throughout their careers.
