The Department of Meteorology has issued a heat index advisory for several districts in the eastern region of the country, valid for tomorrow.

The heat index – the temperature felt on the human body and not the actual temperature – is likely to rise to the ‘Caution’ level in parts of the Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, and Monaragala districts during the daytime.

Residents in these areas are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight when possible, and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.
