SriLankan Airlines has suspended its flights to Dammam after halting Riyadh services

SriLankan Airlines has suspended its flights to Dammam, Saudi Arabia until October 18 following recent attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Missile strikes claimed by the Iran-backed Houthi group on Saturday and Sunday killed at least 13 people and injured several others, according to Saudi authorities.

SriLankan Airlines has already suspended flights to Riyadh through October 18.

Conflict

The attacks on Riyadh’s international airport were part of recent escalations in the Yemen war, where the Houthis have been battling the internationally recognised Yemeni government.

The Houthis have repeatedly struck King Khalid International Airport and other Saudi sites, while Saudi Arabia has carried out air strikes in support of government forces.

The escalation follows the collapse of a UN-brokered ceasefire and risks widening a conflict already worsened by regional tensions.

SriLankan Statement

In a statement confirming the suspension, SriLankan Airlines said that flights would resume "once the conditions are assessed to be suitable for commercial flight operations."

It also urged the public to contact 1979 (within Sri Lanka), +94 11 777 1979 (international), WhatsApp +94 74 444 1979 (chat only), reach out to their travel agent, or visit www.srilankan.com for further details.
