Rumesh Tharanga wins Sri Lanka’s first Commonwealth Games gold medal in 20 years in the Men’s Javelin

Rumesh Tharanga claimed Sri Lanka's first Commonwealth Games gold in 20 years, winning the men's javelin at the 2026 Glasgow Games on Friday.

Tharanga fouled on five of his six attempts, but his one legal throw – 89.75 metres on his second effort – proved enough for gold.

India's Neeraj Chopra, the 2018 Commonwealth champion and Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist, took silver with a season's best of 85.83 metres, while compatriot Yash Vir Singh threw a personal best of 85.41 metres to complete a second-and-third finish for India.
