Sri Lankan Rumesh Tharanga continued his ascent up the men's world javelin rankings, moving to second place following his victory at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
Despite not bettering the personal best of 92.62 metres he threw at the Rome Diamond League, his effort of 86.57 metres was enough to secure first place in the Ostrava meet and into second in the world rankings.
Germany's Julian Weber is the only athlete ahead of him in the rankings, and with Weber having not yet taken part this year, Tharanga is well placed to take the top spot in the rankings when he competes in the Doha Diamond League on Friday.
