Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) named Kusal Mendis as the new captain of the national men’s Test team, replacing Dhananjaya de Silva, who stepped down from the role on Thursday (October 8).
Mendis, who was appointed Sri Lanka’s ODI and T20I captain in May, now leads the side across all three international formats, becoming the country’s first all-format captain since Dinesh Chandimal in 2018.
Sri Lanka will face Pakistan in a two-Test series next month, with the first Test scheduled to begin in Rawalpindi on November 9, Mendis’ first assignment as Test captain.
