ITAK MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam welcomes decision of the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia to set aside death sentence against Anojan Sivarasa

Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam welcomed the decision taken by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia to set aside the death sentence handed to Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa.

Foreign Ministry officials today (October 14) announced that the Saudi Supreme Court had taken this decision following sustained diplomatic and legal efforts by the Sri Lankan Government.

While welcoming the development, MP Rasamanickam, posting on X, said the mission would only be complete when Anojan Sivarasa is safely brought back to Sri Lanka.

“Immense relief”

“I wholeheartedly welcome the positive development in the case of Sivarasa Anojan, following the decision to set aside the death sentence imposed upon him in Saudi Arabia. This news brings immense relief and renewed hope to his family and everyone who has worked tirelessly on his behalf,” Rasamanickam said.

“While we welcome this significant progress, our efforts will not end here. Our mission will only be complete when Sivarasa Anojan is safely brought back to Sri Lanka, following the completion of all necessary legal procedures and due process, and reunited with his family,” the ITAK MP added.

“I sincerely hope that the Sri Lankan and Saudi authorities will continue their constructive engagement to facilitate his safe return at the earliest possible opportunity, in accordance with the applicable legal procedures,” he wrote.
