The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has said that it will issue fuel based on the last digit of vehicle number plates starting from tomorrow (March 19).
This system will be used along with the existing QR code system.
Vehicles with number plates ending with 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 will be eligible to obtain fuel on even-numbered days, while those whose number plates end with 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 will be served on odd-numbered days.
"For example, tomorrow is the 19th, so under this system, vehicles that have number plates ending on odd numbers -- 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 -- will be able to purchase fuel," Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) D. J. Rajakaruna said.
"Since day after tomorrow is 20th, an even number day, vehicles ending with even numbers -- 2, 4, 6 and 8 -- and zero (0) will be eligible to pump fuel," he further explained.
"We hope this will halve the number of people at the petrol queues," he added.
