Former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickremaratne has died aged 63

Former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickremaratne has died at the age of 63, it was reported today.

Wickremaratne was reportedly found dead earlier today at his residence in Athurugiriya.

Police are conducting investigations into the cause of death.

Wickremaratne was appointed Acting IGP in 2019, following the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

He was subsequently appointed the 35th IGP in Sri Lanka in November 2020, and served in the position until his retirement in November 2023.

With a service career spanning more than 30 years, he had previously served as Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Southern Province.
