A baby Nile hippopotamus recently born at the Dehiwala National Zoo has been named 'Momo' after a public initiative to name the animal.
The Department of National Zoological Gardens said that nearly 1,000 suggestions were received as part of a competition open to children under the age of 12.
A committee including officials from the zoo selected the winning name, which was first suggested by a young girl named Avandha Tamari.
