Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol has passed away peacefully at the age of 47

Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has passed away peacefully at the age of 47, international media reported.

According to a statement from the Bureau of the Royal Household, she died on Thursday evening following a worsening abdominal infection.

Affectionately known as "Princess Bha," she was the only child born from the King’s first marriage to Princess Soamsawali.

She had been hospitalized since December 2022 after falling ill suddenly while training dogs for an army exhibition.

Prior to her passing, the palace reported she was relying on medical devices to support her lung and kidney functions.

A highly educated professional, the princess earned a law degree and a doctorate from Cornell University in the United States.

She built a distinguished career in public service, working as a trained prosecutor and serving as Thailand’s ambassador to Austria.

Throughout her life, she was a dedicated advocate for women's rights and successfully campaigned to improve conditions for female prisoners.

Her passing has sparked immense grief across the kingdom, where the royal family occupies the apex of Thai society.

Her death is expected to prompt questions surrounding royal succession, a deeply sensitive topic heavily guarded by strict local laws.
